Dan Simon
Simon Mediation
Dan Simon is a leader in the field of transformative mediation and is the co-author, with Tara West of Self-Determination in Mediation: The Art and Science of Mirrors and Lights (Rowman & Littlefield, 2022). He also wrote the chapter on divorce mediation in the Institute for the Study of Conflict Transformation’s (“ISCT”) TRANSFORMATIVE MEDIATION SOURCEBOOK.
Dan is a Past Chair of the Minnesota State Bar Association’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Section and has served for 6 years on the Minnesota Supreme Court’s ADR Ethics Board (which is responsible for upholding the ethical standards of ADR providers). He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Institute for the Study of Conflict Transformation, and has trained mediators throughout the country for the ISCT, the U.S. Postal Service, and as an Adjunct Professor at the Hofstra University School of Law.

Dan is especially skilled at handling highly emotional situations and is licensed to practice law and has a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology. Besides creating and directing Simon Mediation, Dan has directed the Jewish Family and Childrens Service Divorce Mediation Program, and is a founding member of the Transformative Mediators of Minnesota.
Dan holds an M.A. in Counseling Psychology and a Law Degree (J.D.), cum laude, from the University of Minnesota. Before he became a full-time mediator in 1998, Dan was a business litigation attorney and a family business consultant.
ADR Experience
Dan has mediated over 2000 cases of all kinds since 1996, and is best known for transforming conflicts in cases of workplace complaints and lawsuits of all kinds. Dan is a leader in the field of transformative mediation, has written about it, and has conducted trainings in it nationwide for the US Postal Service, the Institute for the Study of Conflict Transformation, and as an Adjunct Professor at the Hofstra University School of Law.
