Jay Daugherty, former Administrative Law Judge and Circuit Judge for 20+ years, brings judicial neutrality, relentless energy, and a passion for mediation and arbitration to his full-time Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) practice.
As a Circuit Judge for 20 years, an Administrative Law Judge for seven years, and one of Missouri’s leaders in the development of the practice of mediation and arbitration, Jay has conducted well over 3,500 mediations and scores of arbitrations in nearly every area of the law. Jay is also the owner of Jay Daugherty Mediation and Arbitration, a practice dedicated exclusively to the practice of ADR. It consists of 10 ADR professionals with 7 of the ADR professionals former judges and all highly experienced ADR professionals. It has offices in Kansas City and Springfield, Missouri, with its practice area centering on the greater Midwest, but also conducting mediations from across the entire United States.
As a Circuit Judge and an ALJ, Jay has conducted hundreds of jury trials and thousands of court trials. In the area of dispute resolution, he has conducted mediations in most major cities and communities throughout the United States with settlements ranging from $2,500 to $1.5 billion. The result is extensive mediation, negotiation and litigation experience in nearly every area of the law.
From 1995-2000, Jay chaired the Supreme Court Committee on ADR, helping create Missouri’s modern court-initiated mediation system. In 2000, he served as Missouri’s representative to the national Summit of the States on Dispute Resolution. Since 2009, he has served as Chair of the Supreme Court Commission on ADR.
