Dr. Gizem Alper, Esq.
Dr. Alper is an attorney in New York and Istanbul, as well as an academic with more than 20 years of experience in cross- border transactions and dispute resolution settlement. Having studied and worked across three different continents, her distinguishing feature is to facilitate dialogue and bridge the cultural gap.
Dr. Alper holds a master’s degree in European Business Law from Leiden University and in U.S. Legal Practice from the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University. Her PhD degree in law is from Istanbul University, where she wrote about the ultra vires doctrine as a tool for ensuring justice, fairness and equity, principles of which are crucial to all aspects of dispute management.
As a listed arbitrator and mediator with international tribunals, including WIPO, she has specific expertise in U.S., European and Turkish law, with a focus particularly on the CISG, UNIDROIT principles and international commercial laws.
Dr. Alper serves as the Secretary for the Commercial Law and Uniform State Laws Committee at the Association of the City Bar of New York, and is also a member of the USCIB/ ICC Arbitration Committee, ODR Committee and the North America Group of the Silicon Valley Arbitration & Mediation Center (SVAMC), LCIA European Users’ Council, Dispute Resolution Section of the New York State Bar Association, and Istanbul Bar Association.
On occasion, she lectures, speaks, and writes about mediation, arbitration, and the CISG.
