Why is mediation especially valuable in a financially complex divorce?
Financially complex divorces are exactly the cases where mediation offers the most value. Litigating the division of a business, a professional practice, or a large and varied estate is enormously expensive, slow, and public, and it puts decisions about a family’s financial future in the hands of a judge with limited time.

Litigating the division of a business, a professional practice, or a large and varied estate is enormously expensive, slow, and public, and it puts decisions about a family’s financial future in the hands of a judge with limited time. Mediation lets the parties resolve these matters privately and with far more control, working through valuation and division issues with a neutral who understands them and can craft creative, tailored solutions — such as offsetting one spouse’s retention of a business against other assets, or structuring a buyout over time. It also keeps sensitive financial and business information out of the public record. For parties with significant or complicated assets, the confidentiality, control, and financial sophistication that mediation allows frequently make it markedly better than a court fight.
